Lay-Counseling

Life can throw different challenges at us. Sometimes we can face situations that are confusing or too large for us to handle alone. And we just need someone to come alongside us and help us sort through the puzzle pieces of life. Our lay-counseling ministry does just that.

Our Lay-counselors are not professional counselors but are godly and gifted men and women who are non-judgmental, compassionate and caring individuals. They understand the truth of God’s Word (the Bible) and how it can be applied to everyday life. They understand the power of God to heal the inner self and redeem situations. They are great listeners and want to walk with you through your presented needs while offering hope in Christ. Our free Lay-counseling sessions are 50 min in a private room at our church.

FAQ's

Are the counselors professional counselors?
No, our team are compassionate, gifted and trained lay-counselors. That means they are great listeners who are able to help walk with you through your presented needs and assist you in making next steps toward solutions.

How much will the lay-counseling program cost me?
Absolutely nothing! This is our ministry! Our payment is in the form of your appreciation and seeing you overcome obstacles and gain the wisdom and strength to move forward.

Do I need to be a member of First Baptist to receive lay-counseling services?
No, just an attender. If you are seeking marriage counseling but your spouse doesn’t attend our church, that is not a problem.

How long are the sessions?
Each session is 50 min in a private room on our church campus. Unless not needed, the duration of visits is between 5-8 sessions.

Are the meetings confidential?
Yes, all of our lay-counselors keep everything confidential. What you say stays in the room and doesn’t leave any other way. We may be required by California state law to report certain things - which we will go over with you in the first session.

What type of reasons would people come to lay-counseling for?
Many reasons, really. Just about anything where you need someone to hear you and be able to believe God for breakthroughs in. These areas may include: marital difficulties, grief, anxiety, depression, making difficult decisions, and more.

How do I get started?
Fill out the online application. Once we receive that, we will get in contact with you.

Who can I talk to if I have more questions?
We would be happy to answer your questions. We are here to serve. You can call the church office 209-466-4368 (Amber Wood) or laycounseling@fbcstockton.org
